Spanish version (English version)

Mejor (better), es el comparativo de superioridad de bueno (good):

• "Tu coche es bueno, pero mi coche es mejor" ("Your car is good, but my car is better")
• "Mi coche es mejor que tu coche" ("My car is better than your car")

También se aplica a bien:

• "Tu redacción está bien, pero podría estar mejor" ("Your composition is good, but it could be better")

más bien puede significar muchas cosas, pero NO significa mejor.

Por lo tanto, esta frase es incorrecta:

• *"Tu redacción está bien, pero podría estar más bien" (*"Your composition is good, but it could be more well")

En francés se diría plutôt. En inglés se podría traducir como rather, instead o on the contrary según el contexto:

1. más bien = bastante (rather, quite)
   "El krummhorn produce un sonido más bien extraño" ("The krummhorn produces a rather strange sound")
2. más bien = preferiblemente, en lugar de eso, al contrario (rather, preferably, instead, on the contrary)
   "En España no decimos 'huevón', sino más bien 'vago'" ("In Spain we don't say 'huevón', but rather 'vago'")
3. más bien = mejor dicho (or rather, more exactly)
   "Ver (o más bien escuchar) películas en español es una buena idea" ("Watching (or rather listening to) films in Spanish is a good idea")

Por supuesto, rather se puede traducir en algunos casos como "mejor": rather than = mejor que, más que:

• "Cuando os vayáis de vacaciones, cambiad a NO-MAIL mejor que borraros de la lista" ("When you go on holiday, switch to NO-MAIL rather than signing off the list")
• "Yo diría que ella viene de una gran ciudad más que de un pueblo pequeño" ("I'd say she comes from a big city rather than a small town")

English version (Spanish version)

Mejor (better), is the superiority comparative for bueno (good):
